"editing : about the different ways of writing documentary"

This course aims at acquiring the knowledge and means (perceptive, dramatic and narrative) necessary to edit a documentary film. It proposes an approach of the narrative, starting with the specific features of documentary film writing (time, space, place of speech). It also raises the question of the relationship between montage and mise en scène.

From Monday 4 June to Friday 2 July 2010

Participants : Anyone interested in experiencing documentary editing as a privileged moment for creation and narrative development.

Duration : three weeks, full time.
Number of trainees : 12
The course is conducted by two Varan coaches and is run in two parts :

Part One :
During the first two weeks : film analysis, meeting with filmmakers and editors, practical exercises.

Part Two :
The third week is devoted to editing of a 20-minute film, using a famous director’s footage. Analysis of all the edited works and their different narratives.

FINANCING THE COURSE IN PARIS FOR FOREIGN APPLICANTS LIVING IN FRANCE

The course is "Conventionné AFDAS".
The course can be taken within the CIF professional training scheme (individual training leave) and can be financed by any public or private body.
There is no exhaustive list of financing organisations but here are a few examples : AFDAS, MEDIAFOR, FONGECIF, AUVICOM, UNIFORMATION, FAF, TT...
Each applicant has to find his/her own financing solution depending on his/her situation and background.
Personal financing is accepted.

FINANCING THE COURSE IN PARIS FOR FOREIGN APPLICANTS LIVING ABROAD

The course has to be financed by an appropriate public or private body in the applicant’s native country.
Personal financing is accepted.
There is no exhaustive list of financing organisations but here are a few examples :
Cultural services of the French Embassy, the Gulbenkian Foundation (Portugal), Studiesenteret (Norway).
Each applicant has to find his/her own financing solution depending on his/her situation and background.
